Five

(2024)

Five is a three-minute collage film that explores the desensitization of society to violence in an age of relentless media consumption. The film centers around five true news stories, each depicting a real act of violence, which are seamlessly woven into a chaotic landscape of layered media. Through a dense, overlapping montage of news clips, video game sequences, and viral videos, the images blend together, causing their complexities to dissolve as the brain struggles to process the overwhelming details. The film’s fragmented composition and layered visuals mirror the numbing effect of constant exposure, where the line between reality and entertainment becomes increasingly difficult to discern. Five invites the viewer to reflect on how this sensory overload not only distorts our understanding of violence but also erodes our ability to connect emotionally with the very real tragedies beneath the surface.
